Pothole April 2012

Kia ora Whanau

The Ngatiwai Marae Learning Centre has been open for bussiness as usual. I have had a steady flow of clients using our Internet services. We have bigger and brighter signs for the Learning Centre, which have now bee placed strategically to catch everyone’s attention. I am sure our new signs will help to generate alot of interest in the Centre.

Traditional Hangi Course:  I am thrilled to announce that the “Traditional Hangi Course” will kick off on the 23rd April, starting with a powhiri at 10am. The students (20 of them) are part of the students who do courses with the Dive Inn in Kamo. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jury for allowing his students to take part in this awesome experience of “Traditional  Hangi Making”. The course will run every Monday from 10am – 3pm for 10 weeks. The tutor, David Davis (Son) is very keen to share his knowledge, skills and experience with the students.

Coffee Korero: Just a reminder that “Coffee Korero” is held every Tuesday at the Ngatiwai Marae from10am-12noon, so come on down to the Marae where we can get together and korero over coffee, share some ideas, or maybe hobbies, or even catch up on the latest gossip. It’s a way of keeping in touch with one another in true community style. ”Nau mai haere mai-Come korero Over a Cuppa Coffee”

BeeKeeping:  Aroha mai whanau. There has been no feedback on the bee keeping. We need to have more people interested before I can go ahead and plan. At the moment there has only been one person who has expressed an interest.

Te Reo Maori:  The same applies to the Te Reo Maori classes. We need to have at least 10 or more people before we can confrim classes. Please contact me if you are interested in either Bee Keeping/Te Reo Maori.

Market Day:  Lastly whanau, our next market day will be on 21st April here at the Ngatiwai Marae, starting at 8.00am. So remember the date and come along either to buy or sell. Those of you who wish to sell items, the cost is $5.00 per table.  All proceeds from tables go to the marae.

Big Thank You: I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who expressed love and concerns for me and my whanau when I was unexpectedly admitted to Whangarei hospital earlier in March. I am happy to say that I am now 100% better and back at work and enjoying my mahi.

Pothole February 2012

Kia ora whanauWelcome to 2012 whanau, the weather is just glorious at the moment, most holiday makers are back at work, next week the children will be back at school, and we will be back to normality.

While you were all enjoying your very wet festive season, the Ngatiwai Marae Learning Centre was open for business as usual operating its ‘Internet Cafe’, and while the weather kept some people away, we did get people calling in using the ‘Internet services and sampling what was available from the Cafe’ so whilst I wasn’t run off my feet, meeting and greeting people seemed to generate a lot of interest in the Marae Learning Centre.

What’s on offer: Traditional Hangi Making Course;

This is a twelve (12) week course, held every Monday from 10am – 3pm.The course will include: a historical reflecton, food safety on the marae, practical guidelines in preparing and cooking a hangi.

The tutor will be the one and only best hangi maker in the world David Davis(Son), the course will cost $15.00 per person, unfortunately in today’s econmical climate we are now at a point whereby the Learning Centre has to be able to cover costs. For futher inquires please contact me at work (Ngatiwai Marae, Ngaiotonga)or call 0212727680.

“Enrol now to secure your spot”

Expressions of Inerest:  At the moment I am looking into bee keeping as there is quit abit of interest, if there is any one out there with information or know bee keeping and is willing to teach or share interest with others who are keen to learn, then I need to hear from you. There is also been a number of people interested in learning Te Reo Maori. I am currently exploring opportunities to secure Te Reo Maori classes at the Marae. If you are interested in either the Bee Keeping or the Te Reo Maori please feel free to register your interest with me.

Coffee Korero: This is an invitation to those who would like to “Korero over a Cuppa Coffee” The idea behind this initiative is to have a day set aside for a couple of hours were we can meet and share some ideas and hobbies, or maybe play cards, scrabble, or catch up on the latest gossip!! Any thing really just so that we can get together, so our first “Coffe Korero” will be Tuesday, 7th February starting at 10.00am

“Nau mai haere mai – Take a Break – Come and have a Cuppa Coffee and a Korero”

Internet Access: Don’t forget we offer “Internet Access” here at the Ngatiwai Marae Learning Centre, cost is $5.00 per hour, there are other options available contact me at the marae, or phone 0212727680. I am here at the centre Monday – Wednesday 8.30am –  5.00pm and on Thursday 8.30am – 3.00pm.
